Helen asks…
How much is a taxi to chiang Mai from the Chiang Mai airport and how long does it take?
I live in Chonburi and am flying to Chiang Mai from Bangkok any other tips?

Dean Cortez answers:
The Chiang Mai airport is in CM – so, depending on where you might be going, it may not be too far, but either way, it is not far. It should not be more than abt a 15 minute drive to the center of town. I do not know how they work things but if it were a Bkk metered taxi, it would likely be not more than 100 baht – but since it is the airport and likely no meters, you might be paying close to 200 baht, depending on day or night. There likely will be tuk tuks there too – - but, why not contact your hotel and ask. They may even have pick-up service.
Sunday Night Walking Street Market might be some of the most original shopping you can do in Thailand w/lots of independent craft people selling their wares.
Have fun.

Sandy asks…
How do I start tutoring English in Chiang Mai?
I’m an undergrad, busy with my own degree and muay thai for a hobby. I’ll work and adjust my schedule if need be for a steady job while here in Chiang Mai, but preferably I’d like to tutor in English.
How do I start building up a clientele? I’ll be here a couple years, I have money saved…but the sooner I start earning as much as I spend the better.

Dean Cortez answers:
Since you sound like you are not working for a school or an institution that teaches English, what you are proposing is illegal. If you are here on a student visa or a tourist visa you are not allowed to work under Thai Immigration law. You can’t get a work permit unless you already have a job. I would be careful trying to do something like you are proposing, if you are caught working without a work permit, you will be fined and deported. Be careful, immigration laws are strictly enforced here. Good luck.

Steven asks…
How long does a train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai take?
Or how long does a train (overnight?) take from Chiang Mai down to the southern tip of Thailand? I’m trying to plan a week vacation in Thailand, and I want to save money and not fly around if the trains are okay.
