Sandy asks…

Our Girl Scout troop is trying to do a play/skit on the Chinese New year, Does anyone have any ideas on this?

We have 10 girls (10 year olds) and would like each girl to have a speaking part.

Dean Cortez answers:

Since Chinese New Year is based around the coming Spring and the lunar cycle, you could do something about either of those topics. Ten year olds should have already learned about the phases of the moon, so they could brush up on their knowledge of it and write their own skit about it.

There is a lantern festival on the full moon. The girls could decorate the stage (or whever they’ll be performing) with their own paper lanterns (http://www.learningpage.com has super easy directions on how to make them) and even come up with some sort of dance to go along with it.

They could research the many greetings that come along with Chinese New Year (lots of different languages involved) and show how people who speak different languages can still share a common bond with celebrating similar traditions (http://www.wikipedia is a good place to start w/the greetings).

Lizzie asks…

Some good songs to teach to Brownie Girl Scouts?

We are planning on teaching them Dum Dum Dada and Chinese Resturants, any others you know? Make them not hard but not easy so kinda like medium speed. Thanks!

Does anyone know where I can find Girl Scout “Thanks-a-lot” cookies? I want the Chinese ones.?

I can’t find any place online that sells these cookies and I know that my local Girl Scout troops use the other baker.
