Mature Follicles

Richard asks…

what drug is used to stimulate many follicles to mature and ovulate before IVF?

what drug is used to stimulate many follicles to mature and ovulate before IVF

Dean Cortez answers:

IVF use a variety of medications, but the one that specifically stimulates follicle growth is usually some sort of FSH medication. Gonal-F, Follistim, Bravelle, Menopur are examples.

Best wishes!

Lisa asks…

My ultrasound was done on the 24th of march and two mature follicles were seen.Am I pregnant now?

I am feeling tired now a days and there isn’t any other symptoms…I want to know weather I am pregnant or not? please give me the answer if anybody see my question just now. please answer me
dont bother to write if you find the question stupid, just like MARIE Q did.

Dean Cortez answers:

I had two mature follicles previous to my fertility treatment in August. I had to wait 14 days before I got my bfp….
Also, I had these two mature follicles for a few days prior to ovulation so 24th March may not even be your ovulation date. Give it a little while longer and then test, you should preferably test at least 14 days after you ovulate. So it may be a little early to say whether or not you’re pregnant already. I didn’t have any symptoms until I was about 6 weeks pregnant.

Good luck x

Michael asks…

Anyone ever have an IUI with 5 mature follicles?

If so, what was the outcome?

Dean Cortez answers:

I am probably not the person to answer this question, but I had 4 IUI’s last year with 3-4 follicles each. Unfortunately all failed. I am still not prego. Next step is to attempt IVF for me, but I am older…..36 now 35 at the time of IUI’s. I do know of another woman who got pregnant with twins on IUI and I think she was like me and had 4 follicles. It was her second IUI, so everyone is different. Good luck!

Joseph asks…

Do follicles mature in an anovulatory cycle?

I had a CD21 ultrasound yesterday, but I haven’t ovulated yet. We found one lead follicle that is measuring 16mm. I’m wondering if you get a follicle to mature, is it pretty much surely going to ovulate?

I’m just not sure how an anovulatory cycle works. Do you still produce a lead follie and all that, but it just never breaks through to ovulate? Or do you never produce them in the first place?

Dean Cortez answers:

There is a chance that you might not ovulate every month. I had been dealing with the same issues for years. I either ovulated too soon, when the egg wasn’t mature enough to receive the sperm, or I didn’t ovulate at all. My Dr. Put me on Clomid 50mg starting in Jan 07.

I went through a follicle study (ultrasounds) in April and in May on CD’s 3-11-13, and sometimes 14. I had between 4-6 follicles each month. At least 2 would reach the 18 mm mark by day 14. I was then given an HCG booster shot (noveral) to force me to ovulate, since I had anovulation.

If you’re not already on Clomid, it helps to regulate ovulation, and produce more eggs. A greater chance of conceiving. Also, if you’re not already doing the HCG booster shot with the follicle study, I would ask your Dr. About it.

I am now 6/12 weeks pregnant.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

Jenny asks…

My doc cancelled Trigger shot because of high estrogen and many mature follicles?????

Day 15 have 5 Mature follicles (17-19 mm ) (finished my injectables) Says he cant advise triggers shot.

will i ovulate on my own.???
i finished all the injectable drugs (10 days worth)
I have bad ovulation cramping. Also– my LH blood test was a 16 but neg opk

Dean Cortez answers:

Probably because there is a risk of all 5 eggs fertilizing and they would have to perform a reduction. Are you doing IUI? You probably will ovulate. You should be checking everyday for an LH surge using OPK.

Robert asks…

How many mature follicles do you need for IVF?

Dean Cortez answers:

It depends on your RE. All REs are different. Some will go to ER with as little as 2 and some want to see at least 4. Sometimes you also may have a few hiding! My RE likes to see at least 4 before a retrieval. If I have less than 4 (I’ve been lucky so far and haven’t), he will do an IUI instead.

Good luck to you!
