Sandy asks…
2 mature follicles on clomid?
——————————————————————————–
This is my first round of clomid i took on days 3-7 and went in today for my mid-cycle ultrasound, they said i have 2 mature follicles in my left ovary one is 21mm and the other is 24mm they gave me a trigger shot as well, so i guess im asking do i have good chances of concieving this month?

Dean Cortez answers:
Your chances are just as good as anyone else… 25%.
A better question would be… Is this a good response to Clomid? The answer… Yes, that’s a great response.
Good luck!
Edited to Add—-it was the combination of Clomid + IUI that give the poster below the higher chance. You didn’t specify if you were doing timed intercourse or IUI. So if you ARE doing IUI, then yes, your chances would be slightly higher.

Steven asks…
How many mature follicles did you have when you got pregnant with an IUI?
I had 6-8 mature follicles when I had my IUI last week. (I had about 13 all together, but at least 6 that measured about 21mm) I cannot test until October 1st and I’m trying not to get my hopes up but it sounds like I had a lot more follicles than some people so maybe my chances are good.
The cycle that you got pregnant using IUI, how many mature follicles did you have?
They did discuss the risk of multiples and my husband and I are aware of it but we are not ready to do ivf so we are taking our chances at this point. I responded really well to a low dose of gonal-f.

Dean Cortez answers:
3 follicles.
My second iui i produced about 8 follicles and they wouldn’t go through with the procedure because of the risk of having super multiples. I had to go through IVF instead.
Never got pregnant.

Nancy asks…
Question about ovulation and mature follicles!?
I have PCOS and had an ultrasound done on Nov. 4th. I started my LMP on Oct. 15 so on Nov. 4 I was about half way through my cycle. I had 2 maturing follicles in my left ovary measuring 2cm each (20 mm). The next day I had fertile mucus and now am 9 days late if I did indeed ovulate. What are the chances that I actually got pregnant, what are the chances of twins, and if my lab technician said maturing, does that mean ovulation was close? He said, it looked exactly like what he wanted to see! Any advice you can offer would be great!
I can’t seem to find any information online at all….. if you have mature follicles, does that mean that you will indeed ovulate or could you still see mature follicles and not ovultae?

Dean Cortez answers:
Maturing follicles is a sign of impending ovulation, but you need that LH surge to ovulate. Only a blood test or ultrasound (or pregnancy) will confirm that ovulation did in fact occur.
If you are 9 days late, you should get an accurate result on a HPT by now so go ahead and take one!
Good luck!

Ken asks…
Can these follicles mature in time?
I had a scan on cd 7 and I have one 10mm follicle and then today cd 11 I had 10 follicles the dominant is now 18mm and there are a few 14-16 mm ones I am not sure how many. I have one last fsh shot today then tomorrow at 8pm I have the hcg trigger shot. I was wondering if anyone knew if the smaller follicles could possible get big enough to be useful? We really want to an iui this cycle but it is quite expensive so I only want to do it with atleast 3 mature follicles. I am booked in for the iui on tuesday (today being saturday) and on wednesday.

Dean Cortez answers:
The follicles mature 2 mm everyday and also sometimes the ova that matures earlier waits for the other one to mature also before ovulation and also we can find that from getting estrogen checked in the blood on CD 10 as for every 200 units one ova matures .good luck…..
