Lisa asks…
Naked Economics…please help?
In chapter 2, does capitalism create more “winners” or more “losers?” What’s the author’s position on this?
for my curosity: what’s ur position on this, and how can u defend it?

Dean Cortez answers:
Capitalism is the economic system in which the means of production are owned by private persons, and operated for profit and where investments, distribution, income, production and pricing of goods and services are predominantly determined through the operation of a free market, rather than by central economic planning. Capitalism is usually considered to involve the right of individuals and corporations to trade, incorporate, employ workers, and use money provided by central banks, in goods, services (including finance), labor and land. In theory, production and distribution in a capitalist system are governed by the free market rather than state regulation, with state action confined to defining and enforcing the basic rules of the market though the state may provide a few basic public goods and infrastructure. Unrestrained capitalism is confined to theory, as “all of the capitalistic societies of the West have mixed economies” with interventionist state regulation, social programs[6] and state ownership of some sectors.
Capitalist economic practices became institutionalized in England between the 16th and 19th centuries, although some features of capitalist organization existed in the ancient world, and early forms of merchant capitalism flourished during the Middle Ages. Capitalism has been dominant in the Western world since the end of feudalism. From Britain it gradually spread throughout Europe, across political and cultural frontiers. In the 19th and 20th centuries, capitalism provided the main, but not exclusive, means of industrialization throughout much of the world.
The concept of capitalism has limited analytic value, given the great variety of historical cases over which it is applied, varying in time, geography, politics and culture, and some feel that the term “mixed economies” more precisely describes most contemporary economies. Some economists have specified a variety of different types of capitalism, depending on specifics of concentration of economic power and wealth, and methods of capital accumulation. The capitalist mixed economy is the main capitalist system, where the state intervenes in market activity and provides some services. Other systems include laissez-faire, where the state plays a minimal role and anarcho-capitalism where the market and private enterprise are completely free from the state which is nonexistent. During the last century capitalism has been contrasted with centrally planned economies, such as Marxian economies.

Do you like crony capitalism?

Dean Cortez answers:
Not particularly.

Laura asks…
How big of a role does capitalism play in gender issues?
It is a psychological warfare to get as many people to buy a product as possible. They show half naked women to sell hamburgers to men. They show strong, smart women demeaning their husbands to sell accountants to do your taxes.
Women are mad about it and blame men. Men are mad they look dumb on TV all the time and blame feminists.
Devil’s adv. – LOL I hear ya, but I am glad to think about more than Brangelina and Spears! Why would I want to have a crappy conversation about that nonsense?
Lance- Most feminists do not make it a goal to belittle men. The ones who do get more attention. That is not the goal of real feminism. The word is unfortunately threatening in itself. Sir Webster defines the movement in its pure and true form. There are really just plenty of disfunctional people in the world – male and female.
They prey on it like vampires. It appears to be quite lucrative.

Dean Cortez answers:
Taller men make more money on average in corporate America. You’re more likely to become vice- president if you’re 5’10″ or over. The taller guy is considered the most man and the image that most board members want to send to the rest of the global economic community.
The younger and more attractive a woman looks the more likely she is to get a faster track to promotions. The cosmetics industry makes a killing because of this. None of the ” age-defying stuff really works but women feel compelled to use them.
Cleaning and household products have always been targeted at women and most often than not depict a woman engaged in domestic house-work in ads and commercials.
As most the others have stated they drape pin-up type women
over cars, or show them stroke a guy after a clean shave in order to indicate that that particular ride carries sex appeal and that a brand of razor is superior to all others.

Linda asks…
How would we feel if China Invaded the US, and took civilians and placed them in their version of Gitmo?
Just suppose China, Russia, and N Korea invade the US and say they are doing this to liberate us from evil capitalism and to have regime change because of Bushs international crimes.
So lets suppose the troops China and their allies are roaming around American cities arresting every American that is standing up to them. So the Invading forces call these brave Americans ( Insurgents and Terrorists).
They also take some of these Americans to a Gitmo Like Camp in China and these Americans are now there without any Protection or legal recourse ( They are there indefinately)
So now these Chinese and their Allies Torture these Americans and place hoods on them and make them get on top of each other naked on the cold floors and then some of these Americans are tortured so much that they die.
SO now these Chinese forces change our American Government and replace it with a Pro Chinese/Communism Government .
I hope everyone understand the moral of this question and story.

Dean Cortez answers:
I’d feel bad

Betty asks…
Who do We Thank for this?
“Orwell warned of a world where books were banned. Huxley warned of a world where no one wanted to read books. Orwell warned of a state of permanent war and fear. Huxley warned of a culture diverted by mindless pleasure. Orwell warned of a state where every conversation and thought was monitored and dissent was brutally punished. Huxley warned of a state where a population, preoccupied by trivia and gossip, no longer cared about truth or information. Orwell saw us frightened into submission. Huxley saw us seduced into submission.
But Huxley, we are discovering, was merely the prelude to Orwell. Huxley understood the process by which we would be complicit in our own enslavement. Orwell understood the enslavement. Now that the corporate coup is over, we stand naked and defenseless. We are beginning to understand, as Karl Marx knew, that unfettered and unregulated capitalism is a brutal and revolutionary force that exploits human beings and the natural world until exhaustion or collapse.”

George Orwell wrote of an Endless War, does this sound Familiar?
This dead guy sure is a Good Guesser!
The difference between us and the UK, they have their cameras on the Outside.
I predict the chip implants to be pushed by 2011.
How do you push such a program? Instill more fear, by way of tragedy.
Overseas, the movement that explains how this will be is already occurring.
Parents will be the most susceptible to this idea. http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/families/article1788169.ece

Dean Cortez answers:
I don’t dwell on paranoia.
It won’t happen if we prevent it. Humans can make anything they want happen if they do something.

Sandra asks…
If Africans were the first humans, why don’t most religions teach this?
Since Africans were the first people, from our human family, on the planet, why don’t religions incorporate this proven truth into their:
Holy books
Teachings
Publications
Doctrines
Is it racism, capitalism, or a mix of all of the above? (Or some other factor/s?)
NOTE: Many christian religions FALSELY teach that Black people come from Ham (Noah’s son who was cursed when he saw his father naked.)

Dean Cortez answers:
The problem in your question lies in the words “proven truth”. That should pretty well answer it.
