I’m looking for similar answers. You can check my questions and answers for more answers too. I do knw that fruits are good, someone told me oranges. I’m planning on bringing a fruit basket and flowers. Blooming flowers are supposed to be good luck or represent prosperity. Also bring money for the kids if there will be any. It’s traditional to give the kids money. Hope some of this helps- if you get any great anwers- I’d appreciate a bit of guidance too! Thanks!!
Gifts for Vietnamese New Year aka Tet ?
I am going to a Tet (Vietnamese New Year) Celebration this Saturday (New Years Eve). I’ve not been to one of these in a long time and I would like to take a gift to the temple that is holding the celebration. What should I take? Any ideas would be helpful as I’m sure I’ll be a bit of a stranger at this temple and I would very much like to be respectful of everyone there and the holiday.
It all depends on how much you are willing to spend. But first, make sure you are dressed in red. Since you are going to a temple, take fresh fruit to place on the alter as an offering of thanks for the old year and for blessings for the new year.
I generally put money, coins specifically, into several little coin purses for the children. I also use these small purses to stuff an assortment of candy that I can give to the youngsters. For your hosts, a good idea is a lucky bamboo plant to bring them health, wealth and proserity in the New Year.
I hope this helps in a small way as you begin celebrating the Year of the Tiger!
